Arizona Passenger Indicted After BWI Flight Diversion
Layne Lundeen, 67, of Tucson, Arizona, was indicted in connection with a Sept. 3 American Airlines flight from Dallas to Newark that diverted to Baltimore/Washington International Airport. Prosecutors allege he assaulted a passenger, made physical contact with crew members, ignored their instructions, used abusive language including racial slurs, and behaved disruptively, prompting passengers to restrain him with duct tape and zip ties. He faces up to 20 years in prison for interfering with flight crew members and attendants and up to one year for assault if convicted. Lundeen has said he does not remember what happened; the charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
