Arkansas Awards $16.1 Million for 47 Projects
The Arkansas Department of Transportation awarded about $14.7 million through its 2026 Transportation Alternatives Program for 38 projects supporting pedestrian, bicycle and other nonmotorized transportation, plus about $1.4 million for nine Recreational Trails Program projects. TAP grants cover eligible work such as sidewalks, bike infrastructure and safety improvements, while trail grants support trail maintenance, restoration and construction; TAP awards require a 20% local match. Northeast Arkansas recipients include Jonesboro, Brookland and Lake City for sidewalk and multi-use trail projects, and Hoxie for a trail safety resurfacing project. Elsewhere, John Brown University received $80,000 toward rehabilitating Sager Creek mountain biking trails.
