EXCLUSIVE: Second Amendment Groups Urge Congressional Republicans To Kill Decades-Old Suppressor Tax

Dozens of Second Amendment groups are urging Congress to make firearm suppressors more accessible for law-abiding Americans, according to a letter exclusively obtained by the 🏢Daily Caller News Foundation.

The gun rights groups — which include the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America (GOA) and the American Suppressor Association (ASA) — called on congressional leadership Wednesday to add Section 2 of the Hearing Protection Act (HPA) in the upcoming reconciliation bill. The HPA’s  — introduced by Virginia Rep. Ben Cline in January — would eliminate a national suppressor registry and a $200 tax by removing suppressors from the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934 under the section.

Suppressors are beneficial to gun owners and should be accessible as a Constitutional right, the letter says.

“Americans should not be taxed for a safety device that helps prevent irreversible damage to one of their senses while exercising their Constitutional rights,” the groups wrote in a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune.

“Suppressors are designed to protect hearing, reduce noise pollution, and help us all be good stewards of the environment. Scare tactics, misinformation, and preservation of the status quo must not be impediments to restoring common sense to our nation’s approach to the Second Amendment.”

The Republican-led reconciliation bill has already taken heat, with the GOA characterizing it as a failure, Florida Daily reported
