His office noted that he supported the measure while serving as the top Democrat on the Senate Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee, helping move it through committee and backing it as a standalone bill.

The controversy arose later when the legislation was packaged with broader government funding measures for final approval. Ossoff voted against the larger spending package.

Asked about the apparent contradiction, Ossoff's office argued that his work was responsible for securing the Military investments regardless of his final vote.

A campaign spokesperson told Fox News Digital that Georgia's Military construction funding resulted directly from Ossoff's efforts on the subcommittee.

The spokesperson added that Ossoff opposed the broader package because of other provisions, including Republican-backed changes to federal health insurance subsidies that Democrats opposed.

Ossoff has repeatedly highlighted his efforts to improve conditions for Military families in Georgia.

He has pushed for replacing Dexter Elementary School at Fort Benning, saying he had worked for years to secure funding for the project. The final package included approximately $127.4 million for the school.

The senator has also drawn attention to housing conditions at Fort Stewart, citing concerns over mold, flooding and lead exposure. He previously released a report detailing those issues and called for better living conditions for Military families.

The legislation included another $8 million for improvements at Fort Stewart.

Republicans have seized on Ossoff's final vote as he prepares for what is expected to be one of the nation's most competitive Senate races.

Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis., accused Ossoff of taking credit for legislation he either opposed or was not directly involved in advancing.

Van Orden also referenced a veterans housing measure that Ossoff promoted despite not sponsoring the bill or casting a recorded vote for it because it passed by voice vote.

Ossoff's office maintains that his committee work helped secure key funding for Georgia's Military installations and families, even though he opposed the broader spending package during its final passage.
