Former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was found “unconscious” at his residence in Washington, D.C., in June, according to a District Fire and EMS dispatch call recording released Wednesday.
An Advanced Life Support ambulance arrived at McConnell’s home shortly before 9 a.m. on June 14 and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for a “cardiac arrest,” according to the dispatch call first reported by Punchbowl News. Hours following his hospitalization, McConnell spokesperson David Popp told the Daily Caller News Foundation that McConnell was “admitted” to the hospital and received “excellent care.”
McConnell’s office has not disclosed the 84-year-old senator’s health issues or the state of his condition.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune told the DCNF on June 15 McConnell was “dialed in” on their conference’s legislative calls and that he sounded good on the phone. McConnell has not returned to Capitol Hill since his hospitalization.
McConnell’s and Thune’s offices did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s requests for comment to clarify their previous statements to the DCNF in light of this latest development.
The elderly senator faced several health issues in the past. He was hospitalized in February for flu-like symptoms, which forced him to miss votes. He fell in the basement of the Russell Senate Office building in October 2025 while a reporter blocked him from accessing the railing while peppering him with questions about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
