Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer notched low favorability among voters in April, according to a poll from The Economist/YouGov released on Wednesday.
The survey found that just 23% of voters held a favorable view of Schumer, while 51% of respondents said they viewed the New York Democrat unfavorably. The poll comes after Schumer faced enormous intraparty backlash over his vote to help advance a GOP spending bill backed by President Donald Trump in March.
Several Democratic lawmakers have notably called for Schumer to step down in recent weeks, including Democratic Maryland Rep. Glenn Ivey and Democratic Michigan State Sen. Mallory McMorrow. Some left-wing youth activist organizations have also urged Schumer to resign.
The Democratic Senator’s approval ratings have fallen since January, when his favorability among voters was 30% while 41% of respondents said they viewed him unfavorably, according to a January Economist/YouGov
