Patrick Clancy Says Lindsay Never Asked Forgiveness For Killing Their Kids

Patrick Clancy said Sunday during an appearance on CBS News’ “60 Minutes” that his ex-wife Lindsay has never asked for his forgiveness after fatally strangling their three young children.

When asked by CBS News’ Ross Douthat if Lindsay has ever requested his forgiveness, Clancy replied: “No. But I gave it to her.” His comments come just a few weeks after the judge overseeing the Lindsay Clancy case declared a mistrial on Sept. 4 after the jury said it could not reach a unanimous verdict due to a lone holdout juror supporting conviction.

Clancy also said during the interview that he believes he would have been “eaten up inside forever” if he had not forgiven Lindsay for murdering their children, citing her “mental illness.”

“I saw headlines that said, you know, ‘Killer Mom,’ and ‘Baby Murderer,’ ‘Monster,’” Clancy said. “And none of ’em were accurate. I believe that it was her mental illness that caused that.”

“So I shared those words,” he continued. “And I think when it comes to forgiveness, I also felt that if I didn’t get there, I would be eaten up inside forever.”

Lindsay Clancy is currently being held in Tewksbury Hospital in Massachusetts, awaiting a final decision on whether she will face a retrial for killing her kids, CBS News reported.

Judge William Sullivan’s declaration of a mistrial came after one juror, who later identified himself as Michael Desronvil, refused to join the other 11 members of the jury in ruling Clancy as “not guilty by definition of insanity.”

Patrick Clancy now resides in New York with his second wife, a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist, People reported in July. Douthat told fellow CBS host Nate Burleson on air monday morning that Clancy and his wife are expecting their first child together.
