House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) brought in a large sum of funds for Democrats in 2019, even though it was an off election year.
The announcement of the “significant record-breaking fundraising haul” came on Thursday. The House speaker raised tens of millions more than the $49.5 million raised in 2017.
In 2019, Pelosi brought in over $87 million for Democrats, and she held 181 fundraisers in 54 cities. Of the $87 million, more than $75 million was raised directly for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).
The Speaker’s executive director, Jorge Aguilar, wrote on Twitter that the fundraising haul “is a direct reflection of voters’ rising enthusiasm to expand our House Democratic Majority that’s been delivering meaningful progress , take back the Senate and elect a Democratic President.”

Additionally, her office notes, “Since entering the Democratic leadership in 2002, the Speaker has raised $815.5 million for Democrats.”
As CNBC political finance reporter Brian Schwartz noted on Twitter, Pelosi raised these funds in 2019 “not just during an off year, but through a cycle that included impeachment and passing dozens of pieces of legislation.”
Pelosi’s executive director also took a swing at President Donald Trump in another tweet.
“While the GOP continues to prioritize special interests cover up Trump’s abuses of power, voters from across the country know that under Pelosi, House Democrats are aggressively working to lower prescription drug costs fighting to protect people with pre-existing conditions,” he wrote.
