President Donald Trump spent the closing hours of the 2026 campaign touting his Washington, D.C., renovation projects while claiming that he had solved inflation despite voters telling pollsters they were still feeling the economic pain.
Trump, speaking at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Monday, touted his efforts renovating the reflecting pool, statues and monuments in the nation’s capital, but spent less time talking about voters’ top issues going into the midterms: inflation. Trump then claimed “inflation is solved” on “Fox and Friends” Tuesday.
Trump, in his address Monday, spoke negatively about efforts under previous administrations to renovate the reflecting pool, and bragged about his efforts.
“I decided to get involved in this, especially over the last few months, and we’ve done a, I think, a really great job. We had – the vandals went to work, but we also went to work on the vandals,” Trump said.
There is a lack of evidence to substantiate that the reflecting pool was vandalized, and a case against the administration’s proposed suspect was dropped. Trump chastised U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro after her office dropped the charges against Olympian David Hearn.
Trump proceeded to promote his other renovation efforts in the nation’s capital.
“We’ve cleaned hundreds of sites of graffiti, fixed over 2,300 lighting fixtures in Washington, DC, cleaned and renovated over 83 statues and fountains and monuments, removed hundreds of squalid homeless encampments. We had encampments on most of the parkland that you now see with — in many cases, it’s going to start in the spring, but we’re replacing all of the grass on all of the parks because, like the human being, grass has a life also.”
