A series of unexplained drone sightings over a key military installation in Washington has raised alarms among U.S. officials, prompting internal discussions about potential security risks at one of the nation’s most sensitive locations.
According to the New York Post, an unidentified drone was detected flying above Fort McNair on Wednesday.
The Washington Post reported that top officials at this base, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, maintain residences there.
Officials familiar with the situation said the drones’ origin remains unknown, leaving authorities without clear answers about who was operating them or why they were flying over the installation.
The incidents were serious enough that officials reportedly considered relocating both Rubio and Hegseth as a precaution. Despite those discussions, a senior administration official said neither man was ultimately moved.
