This is the kind of story that makes your jaw hit the floor — and then makes you wonder how many more like it are hiding in plain sight.
In Fairfax County, Virginia — a wealthy, liberal-leaning suburb just outside the nation’s capital — allegations are swirling that staff at a public high school arranged and even paid for abortions for underage girls without ever telling their parents. Read that again. These aren’t anonymous activist claims from the internet. Virginia’s Republican governor, Glenn Youngkin, has now ordered the state police to open a full-blown criminal investigation.
And the details? They’re as disturbing as they are infuriating.
Reports point to Centreville High School, where in 2021, at least one 17-year-old allegedly had an abortion coordinated by school staff. Not a conversation about pregnancy. Not a referral to a counselor. An actual abortion — arranged, financed, and kept hidden from her family. And if that weren’t enough, there’s the suggestion that taxpayer money may have been used. That means local, state, or even federal funds — your money, my money — could have helped bankroll it.
Youngkin didn’t mince words. He’s “deeply concerned” and made it clear: this isn’t going to be swept under a rug. The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation is on the case, and the order is immediate.
So, how did the school district respond? Fairfax County Public Schools quickly put out a statement full of the usual careful phrasing. They’re launching their own investigation. They insist that “at no time” would such a situation be acceptable. But when asked directly if any staff had ever arranged abortions for students, the answer wasn’t a simple “absolutely not.” Instead, it was a hedged “not to our knowledge” — followed by a reminder that they only started digging into this when they were made aware.
That alone should make every parent in Virginia sit up and pay attention.
