AstraZeneca Announces $1.5 Billion Pipeline Savings Plan
AstraZeneca announced a restructuring program expected to generate about $1.5 billion in benefits, with the savings intended to support drug-development investment and help the company meet its goal of $80 billion in annual revenue by 2030. The plan was unveiled alongside third-quarter results that beat analyst expectations; the company did not detail which operations would change or say whether jobs would be cut. Separately, CEO Pascal Soriot said AstraZeneca is considering cancer-vaccine development, drawing on its work with mRNA technology, while executives cautioned that other companies may currently be better positioned to advance personalized vaccines. The interest follows promising results for a Moderna-Merck personalized melanoma vaccine, though AstraZeneca has cited manufacturing costs and the difficulty of scaling individualized treatments as challenges.
