ASX Overhauls Leadership Under New CEO With Key Appointments

ASX is overhauling its leadership under new CEO Anthony Attia, appointing Keir Barnes as chief financial officer, Mark Peterson as managing director of clearing and settlement, and Elaine Vaisanen as chief operating officer. Barnes, currently Dexus’s CFO, will succeed retiring ASX CFO Andrew Tobin after mid-December 2026, with Tobin staying on to support the transition. Peterson, the former CEO of New Zealand’s exchange operator NZX, will begin in November and oversee clearing and settlement with a dual reporting line to ASX’s CEO and independent oversight boards. Vaisanen will take over the COO role in December and lead the company’s transformation program. The changes come as ASX seeks to address operational and regulatory scrutiny, including concerns about its clearing and settlement technology, and rebuild confidence among investors and regulators.
