AT&T agrees to sell Mexico unit for $2B
AT&T agreed on October 13, 2026 to sell its Mexico wireless business for $2 billion in cash to a 50-50 consortium of Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings. The price is subject to adjustments and additional contractual and contingent benefits. AT&T Mexico had approximately 24.7 million wireless subscribers as of December 2025, ranking as Mexico's second-largest mobile operator, and reported 2025 revenue of 85.4 billion Mexican pesos with 1.4 billion pesos in operating income. The Equity Purchase Agreement was signed the same day. Televisa will hold its stake through subsidiary CVQ; Fintech Mercury is part of an enterprise controlled by David Manuel Martínez Guzmán. The deal is structured via trust F/6860 with Banco INVEX as trustee and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027 pending Mexican regulatory approval. AT&T said the sale lets it concentrate investment on U.S. fiber and wireless networks, including 5G, with no change expected for U.S. customers. No contested claims found in available reporting. The transaction remains subject to customary conditions and regulatory approval.
