Atlantic City Unveils Mural, $4.6M Station Preservation

Atlantic City is investing $4.6 million to preserve and upgrade its century-old Fire Station 2, including masonry, roof, window and interior renovations, while maintaining its role as a fire-training facility. The project was celebrated with the unveiling of “The Door That Opened,” a mural by Chanelle René depicting late Fire Chief and Drill Commander Marvin E. Beatty Jr. and a young girl looking up to him. The artwork honors the station’s history—including its place in the historically African-American Northside neighborhood and its early integration—and highlights Black representation, community and the influence of role models.
