Aubrey District Names School for 39-Year Custodian

Aubrey Independent School District in Texas will name its new elementary school Marilyn Hampton Elementary, honoring the retired custodian’s 39 years of service. Hampton, 76, was surprised with the announcement at a school board meeting when she was asked to unroll a red carpet bearing the school’s name. District leaders said she went well beyond custodial duties by supplying students with school materials, helping them with schoolwork, and encouraging kindness, perseverance, and hard work. Though she retired as a custodian in 2022, Hampton continues caring for infants and toddlers at the district’s Early Bird Learning Center; the new campus is expected to open in August 2027.
