Audi weighs $3 billion Georgia plant expansion
Audi is weighing a $3 billion second phase for its planned $4 billion assembly plant near Macon, Georgia, potentially adding 3,000 jobs by 2033. The initial facility is expected to open in the early 2030s, employ about 4,500 people and produce 200,000 SUVs annually. Georgia is offering the project substantial tax incentives, grants and infrastructure support. The Trump administration has also offered tariff relief to encourage Audi’s U.S. investment; the company reportedly sought to cut its tariff rate on EU imports from 15% to 7.5%, while a rate near 10% is expected. Audi currently imports all vehicles it sells in the United States from Europe or Mexico, and tariffs on vehicles and related materials cost it about €1.2 billion last year.
