France Inflation Rises to 2.4% in August Driven by Energy

France’s consumer-price inflation rose to 2.4% year over year in August 2026, up from 2.1% in July and matching the preliminary estimate. The increase was driven primarily by a sharp acceleration in energy prices, while food inflation reached 1.1% and services inflation was 1.9%. Petroleum products recorded particularly strong annual increases, including diesel, gasoline and heating oil, while core inflation stood at 1.1%. The EU-harmonized inflation rate rose to 2.6% year over year, although that figure was revised down slightly from the preliminary estimate; it increased 0.7% from July. Monthly price growth reflected seasonal increases in clothing and footwear, higher petroleum costs and rising fresh-produce prices.
