Man tells 911 he will kill Oregon school shooter before intervening
On Oct. 15, Kaylub Giamanco spotted a shooter firing a shotgun at a pickup and scaling the fence at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, while driving home for lunch. He called 911, saying "I have a gun and I will shoot them right now" and "I'm about to go kill this kid," while the operator told him not to do anything and to wait for an officer; they talked over each other. Giamanco reported the shooter entering and firing, then the call ended. He entered the school with a .40-caliber handgun from his truck console, crawled toward gunfire, and shot 16-year-old former student Griffin J. John II once, then twice more as the gunman reached for his weapon. In a special needs classroom the attacker killed teacher Megan Lambert, 25, and students Rhoam Summer, 5, and two others ages 8 and 11; Becky Drury and a 7-year-old girl survived. Giamanco later said, "I want to apologize for not saving their babies." President Donald Trump called him "a great hero that went in and did the business." Authorities released the more-than-a-minute call on Nov. 3, 2026. The 400-student school is set for students to return Nov. 12.
