Five Killed in Chatsworth Crashes; Victims Named

Five people were killed in two related crashes Tuesday evening in Chatsworth, Los Angeles. An SUV collided with a Metro Line 166 bus near Nordhoff Street and De Soto Avenue, killing two people and injuring several others. Later, an NBC4/Telemundo 52 news helicopter crashed near a commercial storage facility while covering the collision, killing aerial reporter Eliana Moreno, pilot George Marciniw and 29-year-old Edy Gutierrez Mejia, who was on the ground. The helicopter burst into flames after striking shipping containers and parked vehicles, and nearby witnesses and at least one other person were treated or hospitalized. The NTSB is collecting evidence and expects to issue a preliminary report in about 30 days, while a final determination is expected to take several months.
