Wrong-Way Incidents Bring Arizona Arrest, Tennessee Trooper Injury

Arizona troopers arrested an SUV driver after he was reported traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Winslow on September 20. The driver said he was taking part in “Lunatic,” a game with two others that involves intentionally driving the wrong way on highways, and described himself as the group’s older “supervisor.” Troopers stopped the vehicle before a crash occurred, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of endangerment and reckless driving; the other alleged participants were not identified. Arizona authorities thanked callers who reported the danger and warned that wrong-way driving can be deadly. In a separate incident in Tennessee, a wrong-way driver struck a state trooper on I-40 in Dickson County, injuring both the trooper and the other driver; both were expected to recover.
