Dirt Bikers Collide Head-On in Darkness on Prohibited Modesto Trail

A 66-year-old man died and a 48-year-old man was moderately injured after their dirt bikes collided head-on Wednesday night on Modesto’s Dry Creek Trail. Police said the riders were part of a group traveling in darkness between Moose Park and Thousand Oaks Park; witnesses began CPR and officers continued lifesaving efforts before the older rider died at a hospital. The crash remains under investigation, and the older man’s identity has not been released pending notification of his family. A local trail advocate told The Fresno Bee that motorized dirt-bike use is prohibited on the trails and has become a safety concern, including for youth cyclists.
