Seattle woman jumps from reported fake Uber
Seattle police say a 25-year-old woman got into a car outside a Pioneer Square bar on Oct. 10 after its driver claimed to be her Uber, but she did not check the vehicle’s plate or the driver’s name. During the trip toward Kent, she noticed her ride had been canceled and that the driver was using Google Maps rather than the Uber app. She texted friends, then jumped out at a red light and ran as the car sped away; her friends found her safe shortly afterward. The woman described the car as a white four-door sedan and the driver as a Black man aged 30 to 50. Police say nearby cameras were not working and are asking for information to identify the driver and vehicle. They advise riders to verify the driver and plate in the app, wait in a well-lit place, and share trip details with someone they trust.
