Tesla Driver Reports FSD During Fatal I-80 Crash
A 71-year-old man was killed early Thursday after a Tesla struck him while he was crossing westbound Interstate 80 near the I-780 interchange in Vallejo. The 26-year-old driver told California Highway Patrol officers the car was operating in Full Self-Driving mode, stayed at the scene and provided dashcam footage. CHP’s preliminary review showed the Tesla traveling about 70 mph; it braked and swerved left but struck the pedestrian, who was then hit by at least one other vehicle. The other vehicles did not stop, and CHP is investigating and seeking witnesses. The Tesla driver was not cited at the scene, though authorities said charges could be considered depending on the investigation’s findings.
