Florida Crashes Cause Closures and Traffic Backups
A fatal early-morning crash on the Florida Turnpike near Boca Raton and Delray Beach left traffic backed up for several miles, with only one northbound lane open near the scene. In Plantation, a crash closed eastbound West Sunrise Boulevard near the Florida Turnpike, and police advised drivers to use alternate routes. In Fort Lauderdale, a crash temporarily closed two southbound I-95 lanes just south of Davie Boulevard, causing lengthy backups before the lanes reopened; reports did not say whether anyone was injured. In Jacksonville, an injury crash blocked all southbound lanes of Philips Highway near The Avenues Mall, with traffic diverted through a nearby parking lot. A separate crash with reported injuries shut northbound San Jose Boulevard at Claire Lane in Mandarin.
