Pedestrian Crashes, Arkansas Wrecks Kill Five

A 51-year-old pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck by a southbound pickup Monday night on South Kīhei Road in Maui; police say he was not in a marked crosswalk, and speed or impairment remains under investigation. Separate pedestrian crashes in west Topeka and north Austin also sent people to hospitals, with non-life-threatening injuries reported in Topeka and critical injuries in Austin. In Arkansas, four crashes between Oct. 19 and Oct. 28 killed five people, including two minors, and injured two others; the incidents involved single-vehicle wrecks and a car striking a moped.
