Two Fatal Scooter Crashes Hit Chicago in Two Days
A 39-year-old man riding a stand-up electric scooter died Thursday after colliding with a northbound marked Chicago police vehicle in Bridgeport near 32nd Street and South Princeton Avenue. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, and both officers in the patrol vehicle were hospitalized. Investigators have not said what led to the collision. The following morning, a 67-year-old scooter rider was killed when an SUV struck him in North Park, and the driver was cited for failing to reduce speed. The crashes were Chicago’s second and third fatal electric-scooter crashes in as many days.
