Autonomous Trucking Expands Across Texas, California
Volvo Autonomous Solutions and Waabi have begun carrying Warp customer freight on the Dallas–Houston corridor, using Volvo’s purpose-built VNL Autonomous truck; an observer remains in the driver’s seat as the partners gather operating data and prepare for additional routes. The launch comes amid wider growth in autonomous trucking: Aurora is operating driverless routes, Kodiak has driverless trucks working in the Permian and is targeting a Dallas–Houston launch, while the industry debate increasingly centers on how automation may reshape freight competition and carrier business models. In California, Kodiak and Fresno-based DTL Transport have started a pilot hauling produce between Fresno and Los Angeles, with a human safety driver aboard, to assess effects on transit times, costs, shelf life and capacity. Separately, EASE Logistics is using autonomous electric trucks to move goods between its warehouses.
