Ballard sues Indiana election commission to review complaints before vote
Indiana secretary of state candidate Greg Ballard has sued the Indiana Election Commission, asking it to meet before the Nov. 3 election and consider four campaign-finance complaints involving Republican Max Engling and Democrat Beau Bayh. The complaints question a $60,000 contribution to Engling’s campaign and the reporting of events and possible in-kind contributions involving both campaigns; Engling’s campaign says it returned the money. Ballard says the commission has not met since July and that voters should have the complaints reviewed before Election Day, but he is not seeking a particular ruling. The commission has reportedly requested responses from the campaigns but has no meeting scheduled.
