BC Partners seeks $50 million loan for LIV Golf influence

BC Partners is seeking to buy a $50 million bankruptcy loan from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, a move that could give the private equity firm influence over LIV Golf’s Chapter 11 case and a chance to shape a successor league. The effort follows LIV’s announcement that it would wind down after the PIF ended its funding, having invested more than $5 billion in the circuit since its 2022 launch. BC Partners has told counterparties it still believes a global team-based golf tour can succeed and is willing to commit more money and time. A previous BC-backed relaunch plan, which included up to $300 million in proposed financing for 2027 tournaments, fell apart after the firm failed to secure enough player commitments and some players’ demands went unmet. The successor’s prospects therefore remain uncertain, particularly if it cannot attract a strong field.
