Beijing Drone Ban Takes Effect Nov. 15

Beijing will prohibit the flying, possession and storage of drones within city limits beginning November 15, expanding restrictions that already banned drone sales. Owners are rushing to authorized buy-back sites, where they can receive subsidies, recycle devices for compensation or ship them out of the capital at no cost. The government says the measures are intended to protect airspace and safeguard the security of the capital, following a deadly light-aircraft crash that heightened safety concerns. Some owners support the policy, while others say government buy-back prices and a flood of devices on the market have caused steep losses, with resale values reportedly falling by as much as 40 percent.
