Bend-area schools, colleges cancel classes, programs after shooting

Following the shooting at Silver Rail Elementary, Bend-La Pine Schools canceled classes, activities and athletic events on Friday and arranged for families to reunite with students at Journey Church. The district later announced that all other schools would also be closed Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19-20, while Silver Rail would remain closed until further notice; counselors and increased police presence are planned when students return. COCC and OSU-Cascades closed their campuses Friday, and Bend Park and Recreation District canceled registered recreation programs through the weekend, though some drop-in facilities, parks and trails remained available.
