Book Clubs Bring Readers Together in Varied Formats
Book-centered gatherings are creating low-pressure ways for readers to connect, whether in person or online. At Sacred Grounds in Edwardsville, a monthly “Not So Silent” club invites people to bring any book and read quietly together, with conversation optional; attendees say it offers both solitary reading time and a chance to meet others. Other offerings include an adults-only virtual club from the Southeast Oklahoma Library System and a Zoom discussion of Patricia Highsmith’s “Carol.” A San Angelo bookstore promotes its space as a place to slow down and read, while a university faculty member created Novel Nook to give students more time to explore books and other media together.
