Booker Campaign Reports Overseas Cyberattack Ahead of Election
Charles Booker’s Kentucky U.S. Senate campaign said overseas hackers recently tried to access campaign communications systems and its website, and may have gained access to a staff member’s Signal account in recent months. The campaign said the FBI and other law enforcement agencies are involved and that steps have been taken to secure its systems and private data; it has not disclosed who was responsible or whether additional information was compromised. The announcement came days before Election Day and followed a cyberattack that temporarily disrupted the Federal Election Commission’s online filing system. Booker said the campaign believes the threat has been neutralized and will continue campaigning.
