Border Patrol Agent Charged in Wife’s Killing

Off-duty Border Patrol agent Abel Garza, 30, has been charged with murder in the death of his wife, 28-year-old Mayra Alejandra Landeros, after a stabbing at their Laredo, Texas, home. Police say officers responding to reports of a man seeking help saw a car leave and stopped it, finding Landeros with multiple stab wounds in the back seat; she later died at a hospital. The couple’s two children were found safe at the home. Garza also faces charges including child endangerment and abandonment, aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, interfering with an emergency request for assistance and violating a protective order. Police are investigating the case as domestic violence, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection said its Office of Professional Responsibility is reviewing the matter.
