Boston Dynamics IPO Unlikely Before 2027, Executive Says
Boston Dynamics is unlikely to pursue an initial public offering in 2027, according to a Hyundai Motor Group executive, because its Atlas humanoid robots have not yet been deployed at scale and the company remains unprofitable. Hyundai has not announced a listing timetable or valuation, and analysts say the debut could be delayed until 2029 or later as the company works to demonstrate commercial performance and improve Atlas’s capabilities. Boston Dynamics recorded a loss of about 528 billion won in 2025, with cumulative losses approaching 1.7 trillion won since 2021. Hyundai aims to produce 30,000 Atlas robots annually by 2028 and begin deploying them at its Georgia plant, but industry observers question whether those targets are achievable given the technical challenges of using humanoid robots in manufacturing. Hyundai acquired control of Boston Dynamics in 2021 and recently completed the purchase of SoftBank’s remaining stake, making the robotics company wholly owned by the group.
