Boulder City proposes 5% annual utility rate hikes

Boulder City is proposing annual utility rate increases of up to 5% for electric, water, and wastewater services for three years, beginning in Fiscal Year 2027, to generate about $1.46 million in additional revenue. The plan, informed by a comprehensive utility study conducted by the FSC Group, would allocate roughly $925,000 to electric capital projects, about $393,000 to address the water utility’s operating fund deficit, and around $94,000 to fund wastewater capital projects. Officials say the increases aim to support aging infrastructure and improve reliability of the electric distribution system while stabilizing utility finances. The city posted the proposal on its official Facebook page and is inviting feedback through a written comment process with an August 13 deadline, offering an online form, email, or mailed submissions. The plan has been described by multiple local outlets as part of a broader review by Boulder City’s Utility Advisory Committee tied to fiscal years 2027–2029.
