Breast Cancer Research, Support Efforts Span US, UK
A UT Southwestern Phase II trial is testing a single, targeted radiation dose before surgery for early-stage, hormone-positive breast cancer; in the initial study, tumors were fully eliminated in 72% of patients, and researchers are seeking additional participants. In Texas, a breast cancer symposium highlighted individualized care, including genetic risk assessment, molecular testing to guide treatment, and research into blood tests that may reveal treatment resistance earlier. In Birmingham, The Forge House provides breast cancer patients with counseling, support groups, activities, financial assistance and free wigs, addressing the emotional and financial strain of treatment. A sold-out Zumbathon at Woughton Leisure Centre raised more than £500 for Breast Cancer Now, bringing local participants together to support the charity.
