Breast cancer survivor teams row worldwide
Breast cancer survivor rowing teams in Florida, Connecticut and Ohio are using dragon boating and crew to build fitness, solidarity and support networks after treatment. Orlando’s Warriors on Water team combines teamwork on the water with practical and emotional help for women currently facing cancer, while Westport’s Saugatuck Survive-OARS grew from a hospital partnership promoting exercise during recovery. Members describe how the teams helped them navigate the physical and emotional challenges of treatment and recovery. Ohio’s Dragon Dream Team recently placed second overall in the 1,000-meter race at an international breast cancer paddling festival in France, where its two crews joined thousands of survivors from around the world.
