Brewers’ Matt Kleine Emerges as Astros GM Candidate

The Houston Astros are considering Brewers assistant general manager Matt Kleine for their vacant top baseball operations job, according to reports, though he is one possibility rather than a confirmed finalist. Kleine has spent nearly two decades in Milwaukee’s organization and rose through its baseball operations department to become an assistant GM in 2023. Houston is also seeking a manager, and it remains unclear how much influence the new GM will have over that hire; internal candidates have also been mentioned. The search follows an 81-81 season and a Wild Card sweep, extending a recent run in which the Astros have reached the playoffs but failed to win a series.
