Brewers Win World Series Opener After 44 Years
The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 in Game 1 of the World Series, surviving a tense ninth inning after replay overturned an apparent game-ending double play and Trevor Megill struck out Jonny DeLuca with runners in scoring position. Christian Yelich’s first-inning RBI triple helped spark the two-run lead that held up, while starter Jacob Misiorowski allowed one run over five innings. Rays starter Nick Martinez settled after the opening inning and kept Milwaukee scoreless for the next four. The matchup is the first World Series since 1980 between two franchises seeking their first championship; Yelich, recently named Milwaukee’s first captain, has been a longstanding leader on the team.
