Bridge plans take shape across Iowa, Pennsylvania

Reading is considering two separate bridge projects aimed at drawing visitors and supporting economic activity. A proposed sky bridge would connect the DoubleTree hotel with Santander Arena, giving convention attendees access to meeting spaces at both venues; its estimated cost is $6 million to $8 million, and supporters say it could help attract about 19 conventions. Separately, concept designs would transform the existing Reading Gateway pedestrian bridge with murals, lighting, seating, plantings and an elevated river-viewing platform, while separating slower visitors from faster-moving cyclists and runners. The Gateway plans are based on community input and would reuse much of the current structure.
