Broadcom Arranges $63 Billion Anthropic Chip Financing
Broadcom and Bank of America, Blackstone, Citi and Morgan Stanley arranged $63 billion in financing for a special-purpose vehicle to buy Broadcom AI accelerators and networking equipment and lease them to Anthropic, with deliveries expected to begin in 2027. Bank of America, Citi and Morgan Stanley are arranging the senior, first-lien financing, while Blackstone is providing the committed second-lien portion. Broadcom will provide residual-value support equal to the first-lien financing, helping protect senior lenders if the equipment’s resale value falls; the second-lien financing carries greater exposure to losses if lease payments or resale values disappoint. The transaction comes as Anthropic pursues an IPO and secures additional funding: separate commitments from Google, Amazon and Broadcom reportedly total $77 billion, with some funding tied to capacity or revenue milestones.
