Brown-Forman Q1 Sales Dip Amid Global Soft Demand
Brown-Forman reported a ~1% drop in quarterly net sales, with earnings beating expectations but profit mixed as the company maintains a flat net sales forecast for the full year amid a challenging consumer environment in developed markets. Emerging markets, especially Mexico, helped offset softness in the U.S. and Europe, while RTDs like El Jimador New Mix showed momentum even as tequila brands Herradura and El Jimador declined. The Jack Daniel’s line, including Tennessee Blackberry, contributed to some growth, but overall tequila and used barrel sales remained headwinds, with a substantial 12% drop in tequila sales noted in one review. Analysts noted weak demand, higher consumer caution, and macroeconomic pressures, including inflation and geopolitical instability, affecting discretionary spending on spirits. Despite ongoing headwinds, Brown-Forman affirmed its quarterly guidance, highlighted new product innovations, and pointed to restructuring and distributor changes as potential tailwinds for fiscal 2027.
