Burlington Man Held After Alleged Downtown Shotgun Threats
Burlington police say Jayden Sweeney, 20, was reported carrying and recklessly handling a shotgun around City Hall Park and the Church Street Marketplace on Oct. 30, and allegedly threatened people in the park. Police say witness accounts and surveillance footage supported the allegations; a search of Sweeney’s Cherry Street home turned up a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition. Sweeney was charged with reckless endangerment, pleaded not guilty, and was released with conditions barring him from possessing firearms and entering Church Street or City Hall Park. Police have asked witnesses and anyone who may have been threatened to contact investigators.
