Burlington Mayor Names Geraci Police Chief Nominee
Burlington Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak has selected Anthony Geraci, a longtime New York law enforcement official and former police chief in Newburgh, to lead the city’s police department. Geraci is expected to be introduced to city councilors, the police commission and the public before the City Council considers confirming his appointment on Nov. 9; he would succeed interim Chief Shawn Burke. Geraci’s career includes leadership roles in several upstate New York departments, but his tenures in Watervliet and Newburgh drew controversy: he was furloughed in Watervliet amid budget shortfalls and left Newburgh after women accused him of gender discrimination, retaliation and fostering a hostile workplace. The appointment follows a confidential search that drew criticism for withholding finalists’ names and offering no public meet-and-greet.
