Burnham's EU Push Reopens Britain's Brexit Debate
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has reopened debate over Brexit, arguing that leaving the EU has harmed the economy and weakened Britain’s ability to manage unauthorized migration. He is advocating a much closer relationship with the bloc and says the country should debate the evidence, while leaving open options that could include rejoining. His approach marks a break with the reluctance of previous governments to revisit Brexit, and critics and commentators have compared his political appeal and positioning with Boris Johnson’s. French aerospace company Safran’s CEO says the Labour government is keen to build closer EU industrial partnerships, pointing to longstanding ties between the British and French aerospace sectors. Safran is also expanding engine-maintenance capacity to meet rising demand and expects to fulfill its 2026 Airbus delivery commitments.
