Boeing 737 MAX Production Ramp-Up Delayed

Boeing’s effort to increase 737 MAX production is running behind schedule, with CEO Kelly Ortberg saying the manufacturing system is taking longer than expected to stabilize. The company is producing about 47 aircraft per month after passing a key Federal Aviation Administration review, but is targeting 52 monthly and expects to raise output next year. Wing production at Boeing’s Renton, Washington, facility is the main constraint, although plans are in place to improve the flow. Boeing opened its Everett North Line to support the higher production rate. Ortberg said certification of the 737 MAX 10 is expected soon, while Boeing continues addressing quality and supply-chain challenges following earlier safety-related production restrictions. Boeing shares fell as much as 6% after the delayed ramp-up was disclosed.
