Man Dies After Ejection at Six Flags Over Georgia

Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, a 42-year-old Atlanta father and teacher, died after being ejected from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on October 12; four other riders were injured. The park planned to reopen while Goliath remained closed, and investigators had not determined how Kariem came out of the ride or whether its restraint system failed. State records showed the coaster’s March inspection found no violations, though inspectors noted bushings needed replacement; officials had not linked that maintenance note to the accident. Six Flags temporarily closed nine similar coasters across North America as a precaution while the investigation continued.
