Honolulu Egg Prices Rise 11%, Top $10

Egg prices in Honolulu rose more than 11% over the year to $10.06 per dozen, substantially outpacing the roughly 1% increase on the mainland, where a dozen cost about $7.87. Local organic eggs climbed even more, reaching $13.19 per dozen; reports describe increases of about 17% year over year and 22% from the first to the second quarter. In contrast, 18-count cartons of conventional eggs became cheaper, offering consumers a lower-cost option. Hawaii agriculture officials urged residents to buy local, saying that doing so supports island workers and food production.
